The general meeting on Monday, May 20, 2013, at Sawgrass Country Club was the highlight of the year for the PVWC members.   The meeting was called to order by Celeste Hart, the VP of the Group.   At this meeting, checks were presented to: Mission House, St. Vincent de Paul, Beaches Habitat, Hugs Across the County, and the YMCA after school/camp programs each in the amount of $3,000.  An additional donation in the amount of $1,000 was presented to SAYS (St. Augustine Youth Services) for their summer camp program.  Scholarships were also presented in the amounts of $3,000 each to two students for The Florida School for the Deaf and Blind(photo below) and one to an UNF nursing student.

The PVWC held special events from last September through this May to raise funds to help all of these local charities and scholarships and raised over $25,000 in total under the direction of Sue McCaw, the President. Other funds collected were the annual membership dues.  All of its members are volunteers.  The Club slogan is to “enhance the quality of life through charity, education, and community service.”

During this meeting, the ladies were entertained by the Deaf Dance Troupe from The Florida School for the Deaf and Blind.  This was the very first charity the Group supported when it was founded in 1970.  Each Christmas the PVWC supports an angel tree event where gifts are purchased by the ladies for some of the students so that they will not be forgotten during the holidays.  Also, during this past year, the PVWC made numerous in-kind-donations to the following groups:  Betty Griffin House, St. Vincent DePaul, USO, Wounded Warrior, SAYS (St. Augustine Youth Services) and St. Gerard’s Campus for pregnant women.
New officers for the 2013-2014 year were installed at this meeting.(photo below) Kay Sickler, a Nocatee resident, was installed as the new President to lead the group.  Kay and the new offices are looking forward to a great new year and would like to invite any ladies interested in joining to contact the Membership VPs, Virginia Kent, 904-273-8991, or Teri Ellis, 285-1474
