Hi Everyone,

Can you believe that it's only Wednesday?  This week feels like it will last FOREVER since the last couple were so short - and crazy too!

IF you want to unwind and de-stress,

OR celebrate that it will be Friday Eve,

OR because the weekend can't come soon enough

OR because you, like I, will take any excuse to go out and have a drink with pals,

OR more than one of the above are TRUE,

THEN come and have drinks and nibbles with a few of your Club-mates tomorrow at our Social Hour.

That stuff above is supposed to look like a martini.  Can you see it?  The stem is a bit wonky from this side.

Starting at 5-ish, which means whenever you can get there after you finish your daytime stuff, we'll meet at the penthouse lounge at Casa Marina in Jax Beach.  Here's the address for your GPS:

691 1st St N

Jacksonville Beach, FL 32250

It's between 5th and 6th Ave North.   I might try to bring our big sign, the one from the hallway at the general meeting.  Or not, because it is big and heavy, so no promises.  You will see us with our name tags on.  No RSVP required, just show up and have fun!

Remember back in the early '80s when Trivial Pursuit was the latest craze?  It was invented by Canadians, didja know?  Now we have all kinds of trivia games that have been inspired by it. We will be at Triva Night at Woody's BBQ's THIS SUNDAY from 6-8.

The deadline to RSVP is TOMORROW at noon!  Yikes!  I am guessing there might be a (teeny tiny) grace period.  You don't have to pay to RSVP but you do need to send an e-mail to Nancy and Cindey at waysandmean@pontevedrawomansclub.com.  We have to give our head count to Woody.   If you sent your RSVP to membership before, that's OK, we still have it.  Dinner (your choice of 3 options) is included for $25 each or $45 per couple, and you will pay there.  It is a large, complete meal, you only buy drinks.  A good bargain!

A rack of ribs is enough to convince my husband to go just about anyplace.  Woody's is one of his faves, too.  Look out, his cohorts call him Wikipedia.  As least I know someone on my team will be able to answer the sports and history questions, because it sure won't be me!

See you Thursday and / or Sunday, whichever day(s) you can make it.  Both, I hope!

Happy Friday Eve!

I really hope that everyone managed to stay high & dry through the weather!  Not everyone was as lucky as we were to excape unscathed.  I feel a bit guilty for having so much fun in Atlanta while so many were suffering.  For those that were impacted, I am so truly sorry.  If anyone would like to sign up to help, www.volunteerflorida.org can hook you up.

September is National Library Card Signup Month - just in case you were paying attention to other news.  We are very grateful to the Ponte Vedra Public Library for hosting our monthly board meetings.  If you haven't had a chance to check it out, they are in front of the Winn-Dixie plaza on A1A.  They have a lot more than books!  You can sign out DVDs, read magazines, research digital databases, and - GET THIS! - they have a totally digital library so you can sign out digital books and audio books - for FREE!  That is my favorite price!  Go now and get your library card, if you haven't already, to make your tablet even more useful.  If you appreciate them, you might want to sign up for $25 to be a 'Friend of the Library.'

Our club year is kicking off with our first general meeting THIS MONDAY.  We are having a great salad with grilled chicken for lunch.  When they served it last year, it reminded me of the Chinese Chicken Salad from the Cheesecake Factory.  Yum!

Tonya Snowden, Social Chair, has put together a wonderful line-up of meetings, including a few new venues.

Lynne Sumner and Lisa Hayes, VPs of Programs, are getting a great speaker line-up together.

This month, Tom Kinney will be speaking on Computer Hacking and Identity Theft.  I'm looking at you, Equifax!

Most importantly, at this meeting, we will be voting on our by-laws update.  I have attached them in a document that shows the changes and there is also a separate summary of the changes.  Yes, I made 'Cliff's Notes' for you!  Note that the dues changes will take effect for the 2018-19 Club year.

The sign-up deadline is NOON TODAY so if you haven't already sent in your payment, now is the time.  And if you haven't renewed your club membership, bring cash or your chequebook.  In fact, bring cash anyway, for our 50/50 draw, so you can help support our charities!

If you somehow can't make it to Monday's meeting, because WORK, I get it.  Blow off some steam after work, or commiserate about storm damage, or BOTH, with fabulous happy hour specials at the penthouse lounge at Casa Marina in Jax Beach.  For your GPS:

691 1st St N

Jacksonville Beach, FL 32250

It's between 5th and 6th Ave North.  We are meeting for our Club Social Hour ONE WEEK FROM TODAY, on Thursday, September 21st, around 5-ish or whenever you can get there after your daytime stuff is done.  You will also be in the know come December, when our general meeting will be there.

The fun doesn't stop then!  On Sunday, September 24th, from 6-8pm, it's time for TRIVIA at Woody's BBQ in Ponte Vedra, on the corner of A1A and Solana (by the Winn-Dixie, near the Library!).  Nancy March and Cindey Nordman, 3rd VPs Ways and Means, have put together a great night and a great deal.  Bring your whole gang for dinner and trivia, just $25/person or $45/couple.  There will be real CASH money for winners, so put on your thinking caps.

Go to www.pontevedrawomansclub.com to sign up for any (ALL!) of our events.  We have a new website coming soon, too, that will make it even easier!

How is everyone?

Our New Member Cocktail Reception is Thursday night at 6:00 at Teri's house.  That's tomorrow!

Just in case you hadn't heard already.  Five times.

Or maybe you forgot because you're super busy, so this is your reminder.

Please bring a new member to the event if you know any.  You, or your prospective, could win a prize!  Cindey Nordman has generously donated a $100 gift certificate to Apropos.

Yeah, prizes!  Who knows what else there will be?

Oh, uh, free wine and nibbles, that's what.  What's a party without drinks and food?

I have been helping Sharon Jones, VP of Membership, and the rest of the board get it all planned, in-between madly texting all my old pals in Houston, where I lived for 5 years, to see if they are OK.  Fortunately, they are dry, even though they are trapped inside.  They say it's like they're on an island, but not the good tropical holiday kind.  Our hearts go out to everyone impacted by the hurricane.

In other news, here's a few of our upcoming events for you to put in your calendar:

PVWC Trivia Night on Sunday, Sept. 24th, 6-8 pm, at Woody's BBQ in PVB.  It's only $25 for a full dinner and $45 per couple, so bring your significant other.  There will be CA$H prizes for the winners!

A big plate of ribs will be enough to entice my husband to join me.  What about yours?

Our first general meeting kicks things off on Sept. 18th at 11:30 at Sawgrass.

Don't forget our member social hour is on the 21st at 5-ish at Casa Marina in Jax Beach.

They have a rooftop lounge and happy hour specials that look really good.  Almost as good as the view from their roof!

I might eat too many sliders at $2 each.  It's easier than cooking dinner, right?  Hmm... I wonder if I can get some to go?

Wow!  Can you believe summer is almost over?

Our club board has been busy at work all summer getting the next year planned.

Did you think we were sitting by the pool, drinking Tom Collinses?

I really hope that's what you have been doing.  Invite me next time?

We are about to kick off the 2017-2018 Club year with our New Member cocktail party.  If you joined the club in the past year, please come and get to know us!

If you know any potential Club members, please bring them!  Or at least make sure they are invited.  They can ask for me or Sharon when they get there.

Note new date:
Thursday, August 31st
Teri Ellis's house
6-7:30 pm
RSVP to Sharon Jones

Super big thanks to Teri Ellis, past president, for hosting this event at her home, and especially our FABULOUS VP Membership, Sharon Jones, for putting this event together.

Our first general meeting is on the horizon!  Mark your calendar for 11:30 am on September 18th at Sawgrass Country Club golf clubhouse. Look for an invitation coming soon.

Here is a little secret.  We're working on a new and improved website.  It's coming soon!

I am looking forward to seeing everyone after our summer break!

Did everyone have a great holiday weekend?  Lots of fireworks?  I got to watch them from a hotel balcony overlooking Jax Beach.  Fun!

Our club is a social AND charitable organization.  We get to choose our charities every year.  Our charity chairs (oh that sounds funny!) are hard at work getting ready for our new choices.

What is your favorite charity?

Can we help them?

Is there someone that should be getting our donations that isn’t?

Send your recommendations to Sherry Gallo and Debbie Price and our fantastic charity chairs (tee hee) will make sure that they get an application.  You only have to send the name.  If you have their contact info, that would be great, but it’s not required.

You can also just reply to this message and they will get it that way too.

They are sending them out quick, so send it to them ASAP, and at the very latest, before you go to bed this Sunday (the 16th).

Go charity!

I hope you have fun weekend plans.

Are you taking Monday off to make it a 4-day weekend?

That's what we're doing at our house.

And car shopping, because my 4-wheel ride is really overdue for replacement.  That will be so fun with a 9-year-old.  (Not really!)

We will bring the tablet.  And possibly use ice cream as a bribe.

Can you believe June is almost over?

That also means your deadline for paying your renewal dues is almost here.

Yikes!  But you're not late yet.  Whew!

There are 2 ways to renew.  Take your pick, use whichever one you prefer.

Digital Way:

Pay them here

Scroll down on the linked page to the BUY THIS button under renewals.  If you have it done by midnight Friday, it’s only $40.  After that, it’s $50.

Hard Copy Way:

Mail a cheque for $40 to P.O. Box 957, PVB, 32004.  The PV post office has drive-through mailboxes and that's where our PO box is, so that will be the fastest way.  If it’s late, make the cheque for $50.

Hint:  I won’t get the mail until after Saturday’s mail is delivered, so if you mail it Friday at the post office, while you’re out getting booze groceries for your awesome 4th of July party barbeque, it will be on time.  Yes!

The board has the meeting dates for next year pretty much ironed out but Lynne Sumner and Lisa Hayes, Program chairs, are still planning our speakers.  Your ideas would help a lot!

I would really (actually and truly) like to hear from you!  I promise I will answer.
